Transportation Associates, Inc. (FTA). Established in 1970,
FTA provides professional consulting services on the technical,
operational, economic, environmental, and management problems of air
transportation. FTA was originally founded as a consulting outlet for
faculty and staff of the Flight Transportation Laboratory at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT), but the company has since evolved into an
independent, multi-disciplinary firm with clients throughout the world.
FTA's associates include several full-time staff members as well as MIT
faculty who serve as consultants as needed, and all have advanced degrees
in aviation-oriented specialties including aeronautical engineering,
aviation business management, and transportation engineering. FTA
personnel specialize in air transportation modeling and simulation,
operations research, air traffic control, airport and airline planning,
aircraft operations, and other related fields. In addition, most of FTA's
staff members also have practical aviation industry experience as pilots or air
traffic controllers.
FTA specializes in the application of quantitative techniques to practical industry problems, and the capabilities of the staff are complemented by a number of sophisticated computer programs designed specifically for use in the analysis and simulation of critical elements of the air transportation system. Through its close contacts with MIT and other universities, FTA can also provide its clients with rapid access to the latest developments in academic laboratories.
